An Analysis of the Images of the Three Women in Xiao Hong's Life and Death Arena
Xiao Hong was a modern Chinese writer. Her novel, The Field of Life and Death, was a realistic work that depicted the poverty and cruelty of Chinese society at the end of the Qing Dynasty. In this work, there were three main female characters, namely the heroine He Xiulian, the heroine Tian Wenzi, and the supporting actress Ah Ji. The following is an image analysis of these three female images: 1. Female Lead He Xiulian He Xiulian was one of the female leads in " The Field of Life and Death." She was a kind, hardworking, and brave woman. She was born in poverty but never bowed to fate and struggled persistently in difficult situations. In order to let the children study, she risked her life to sell matches. In the end, she unfortunately froze to death on the streets. The image of He Xiulian showed the tenacious and unyielding character of women. She was one of the most representative and powerful female images in the novel. 2. Female protagonist Tian Wenzi Tian Wenzi was the other female lead in " Life and Death Arena ". She was a rich, powerful, and influential woman. She was born in an official's family, but because of her family's misfortune and her own greed, she eventually embarked on the road of crime. She used her power and money to oppress and control others, even using her lover as a tool. Tian Wenzi's image reflected the corruption and depravity of the upper class female characters in the late Qing Dynasty. She was one of the most representative and tragic female images in the novel. 3. Supporting Actress Aji Aji was the third female character in the game, she was a simple, kind and intelligent woman.
