Excerpt from the first episode of Journey to the West
Sun Wukong was originally a monkey born in the Huaguo Mountain. Later, he became an immortal and learned the Seventy-two Transformations under the tutelage of Patriarch Bodhi. One day, he came to the Heavenly Palace and was mistaken by the Grand Supreme Elderly Lord for a monkey in front of his office. He was then locked in the alchemy furnace. However, Sun Wukong was not burned to death by the flames of the alchemy furnace. Instead, he had trained his Fiery Golden Eyes to see through everything in the alchemy furnace. Later, Sun Wukong learned that Tang Sanzang and his disciples were in the Western Paradise to obtain scriptures, so he went to Chang 'an City to ask Tang Sanzang and others for help. Sun Wukong was able to transform into various forms and found the disciples of Tang Sanzang, Zhu Bajie and Monk Sand, in Chang 'an City. Together with them, he embarked on a journey to the Western Heaven to obtain Buddhist scriptures. On the way, Sun Wukong encountered many dangers and challenges, but he always relied on his wisdom and martial arts to overcome them. He also got to know many interesting characters such as Bai Jingjing, Bai Gujing, Hong Hai Er, etc. He experienced many fantastic stories with them. The first chapter of Journey to the West was mainly about the story of Sun Wukong in Chang 'an. It showed Sun Wukong's magical powers and wisdom, and also described the adventures and fantasy stories on the way to the scriptures.
