Journey to the West was one of the four famous novels in ancient China. The author was Wu Chengen, a novelist of the Ming Dynasty. The novel was based on the story of Xuanzang, a monk of the Tang Dynasty, and his disciples who went to India to obtain the scriptures after going through 81 difficulties.
