Farewell My Concubine was a film about the history of the Chinese opera industry and the stories of the characters. It was directed by Chen Kaige and starred by Zhang Guorong, Gong Li, and Lu Liangwei. In the political struggle, Dieyi and Xiaolou were treated differently as opera actors, and their fates changed. Through the story of Dieyi and Xiaolou, the film explored the relationship between traditional Chinese culture and human nature, as well as the importance and influence of the opera industry in Chinese history.
